JB HILL BOOT COMPANY PRINT ADS
Jim Hill, owner of JB Hill Boot Company always gave me carte blanche when it came to designing the company’s print ads. They ran in high-end magazines like Robb Report, Cowboys and Indians, Safari Club International, etc.
Lencho Guerra, a great local professional photographer and I would meet with Dr. Hill and then he’d let me go to town on designing the ad. I love it when clients trust you enough to let you do what you do. Jud Burgess
Photographer Lencho Guerra supplied the adobe bricks and both final image and the sepia cowboy image. I used the boots as a framing device for the iconic “modern cowboy” photograph.
Same vibe, but showcasing women’s mules.
I wanted to tap into that little girl in women with these boots so I photographed my daughter Annabeth on a swing with boots on just having the time of her life. I was told a woman in the banking industry saw the ad and called JBHill for a pair because the photograph reminded her of herself as a child. Mission accomplished. Photography Lencho Guerra
After seeing these boots, I came up with the line “Forged in Fire” referring to the incredible amount of skill and hours it took to craft the leatherwork. I used a photograph of a campfire for the background and added an extra visual bonus in the flames...can you find it? Clients love these little extras. Boot Photography Lencho Guerra
Jim Hill showed me a beat up pair of boots he received to get some TLC along with an email he received by the sender, Colonel Long. I found someone with great handwriting and had them write me the email as a letter (had to cut and paste to make it look right). Then I had Lencho Guerra photograph it as if it had just been opened and was sitting inside a beat up postal box with the letter. Ad was hugely successful as people loved the fact that the boots were beat to hell and the letter tapped into the mystique of cowboy boots and their wearers.
