They are El Paso’s recently married Power Hungry Couple.
House of Cards meet El Chuco.
I don’t know either of them personally but as a bystander watching them in the goldfish bowl of El Paso politics, I can see right through the thin veneer of their political motives.
You don’t need X-ray specs to see where they stand on some of El Paso’s most pressing issues of the day.
Like the disastrous arena/downtown/rolling quorum/Duranguito/Scherr/Meyers Group mess our city government is hopelessly stuck in.
Claudia Ordaz made it perfectly clear that she has no scruples about choosing the powerful and wealthy downtown property owners and investors while kicking to the curb the marginalized and expendable residents of Duranguito.
And burying El Paso’s oldest living history under hundreds of tons of concrete.
Give her that. At least she doesn’t flip flop.

And then there’s Vince Perez who likes to say that the County Commissioners Court should stay out of city business like the downtown arena. Unless it works to the political advantage of someone close...say his wife...maybe?
When Ordaz sweetheart Perez wrote up that manipulative and disingenuous letter addressed to El Paso’s District Attorney Jaime Ezparza requesting swift justice to those involved in the walking quorum situation, it had nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with taking advantage of perfect timing to pull off a pre-emptive strike on several political obstacles standing in the way of moving the arena forward.
He weaponized that letter and made a subtle but effective plea to Esparza to neutralize some key enemies of Claudia Ordaz, Emma Acosta, Michiel Noe and Carl Robinson and their agenda. (Tolbert, Schwarzbein and Leeser have flipped again and are now siding with them)
This was all about payback and political movidas on behalf of his other half. In my opinion.
That sounds a lot like sticking your nose in city business.
On December 19, 2016, I filed an ethics complaint against the mayor and half of city council. It was all over the news...print, television, Univision, blogs.
Our D.A. had all the time in the world to act on my complaints but chose to stay out of the spotlight.
Weeks later, Perez pens his poison letter to our D.A. and Ezparza sics the Texas Rangers on everyone in record time.
Don’t be fooled by letters written by husbands on the County Commission married to wives on the City Council addressed to El Paso’s District Attorney.
County ComMission accomplished.

This arena must NOT HAPPEN.
We can’t allow it.
It is a $180 million mistake that will lose money and serve no practical purpose other than enriching the already wealthy at our expense while making El Pasoans believe that downtown is in the midst of a major revitalization. That is not the case.
It is a money pit that will only cost us more while we build parking garages to accommodate it and a proposed $100,000,000 monorail to deal with the ridiculous traffic nightmares that will affect downtown El Paso as a result.
There will be many other tax-payer funded projects not mentioned yet.
We need to slam the brakes on this stupidity while we still have money in our wallets and look at alternatives which will benefit ALL El Pasoans, not just the select few with property in downtown and Juárez that are looking to us to pay for their playground.
We need to find a way to demand a revote on the arena and present the people of El Paso a much better option.
I present to you a much better option:
KILL THE ARENA. BUILD THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER.
